A Divorce He Regrets

Chapter 215

Chapter 215:

I turned my head slightly, trying to shake it off. “Adelaide. She’s dead,” I said flatly.

Dominic grunted low in his throat. “Good. The bitch had it coming.” He rubbed a hand over his face, muttering under his breath. Without waiting for a response, he turned to head upstairs to check on Faith and Caleb.

I barely noticed him leave. My mind raced. Adelaide’s death wasn’t just convenient; it was suspicious. I needed to know more.

I called Raina the moment Dominic was out of sight. She picked up on the second ring, her voice soft but steady.

“Hey,” I began, unsure of how to tell her. “I have some updates.”

“Is it bad?” she asked immediately, her tone shifting.

“It’s about Adelaide,” I said, choosing my words carefully. “She’s dead.” The line went silent on the other end, heavy with the weight of her silence. When she finally spoke, her voice quivered.

“Nathan,” she whispered. “He must have done it.”

Her confidence struck a chord. She knew. And it made sense.

“I’ll talk to my agent,” I said hastily, already sending a message to confirm the details surrounding Adelaide’s death. “Hang on.” I sent the message, waiting, each tick of the clock making the silence feel even heavier.noveldrama

Finally, Raina broke the silence. “Are you alright?”

I sank back into the couch, massaging the nape of my neck. “That’s my question to you,” I said. “Are you alright?”

A soft, ragged sigh was the only response I received at first. “Honestly? No. It all feels very… muddled. And I keep expecting to turn a corner and find Nathan waiting, just out of sight, watching me.” My fingers tightened around the phone. “He won’t touch you,” I promised her. “I’ll personally make sure of it.”

There was a pause, and I could feel the almost imperceptible hitch in her breath. She was scared, and I hated how powerless I felt in trying to ease her fear.

“Anyway,” I said, attempting to shift the conversation to something lighter, “Nathan isn’t the only problem. Eliza’s being completely crazy, as usual.”

Raina snorted softly, and the sound brought a small smile to my face.

“When isn’t Eliza crazy? That’s her default setting.” I smiled. “You’re right.”

“What’s Dom doing?” she asked, her voice suddenly sharp.

I hesitated before responding. “The footage from the bar is erased—wiped clean. Dominic doesn’t know yet, but he’s trying to piece things together.”

Before Raina could respond, there was a knock on my door. Faith peeked in, her eyes red and puffy.

“Faith!” I exclaimed.

“I’ll let you two talk,” Raina said softly. “I’ll call in the morning.” I wanted to say more, but the line went dead before I could.

Faith entered the room hesitantly, her eyes swollen from crying. She perched on the armrest of the couch, her hands nervously tugging at the hem of her shirt. “When you said that Eliza did the same thing to you,” she whispered, almost inaudibly, “was that just a way to make me feel better?”

I sighed, leaning back and running a hand through my hair. “No, Faith. I wasn’t just trying to make you feel better—it’s the truth.”

She blinked at me, her eyes wide, trying to process what I was saying. “When did it happen?”

“It was after Raina left,” I said, keeping my voice steady, though the memory stirred a storm of emotions I’d rather leave buried. “Eliza tried to worm her way in. I was too busy taking care of Liam to entertain the idea. But she assumed faking a pregnancy would force my hand. She thought I’d marry her and take care of her… along with Liam.”

Faith’s lips parted, but for a moment, no sound came out. “Did you ever… I mean, was there ever a chance—”
