Chapter 428 With Proximity Comes Advantage
Gordon considered himself to know the minds of men. He believed that Theo would have to consider all angles and persuade Sierra to give up on calling the police.
In the end, however, Theo shook his head, adding, "There's nothing to talk about. She was mistreated. Naturally, she calls the shots on how to resolve the case."
Gordon could no longer keep his smile. Then, he said grimly, "I understand that Mrs. Gray wants to call the police and clear her name. However, the victim of the case had left. We can't call her back over something like this."
Hayley had lost the ring, which meant that she had the indisputable cause to call the police. Naturally, she had her reasons for giving up on pursuing the case, and Sierra had no intentions to stir up any trouble for her.
Gordon could tell that she wavered. Patting Lauren on the shoulder, he plastered on a smile once more and persuaded, "Let's do it this way, Mrs. Gray. I'll make Ms. Crowford apologize to you. Then, we'll call it a bad day and let sleeping dogs lie."
Lauren looked resistant. She wasn't willing to bow her head to Sierra. However, Gordon whispered, "Listen to me. Apologize to her if you don't want to get arrested."
She immediately gave up on fighting against him. Then, she cast an annoyed glance at Sierra, apologizing in an irritated tone, "I'm sorry."
Sierra looked at Lauren icily. "I don't accept your apology. From here on out, I want you to stay away from me whenever you see me. Don't get too close and stir up trouble for me again."noveldrama
Lauren reddened with rage before she fled out of the hotel with misty eyes.
Sierra might have given up on calling the police, but she was just framed out of nowhere, which made her feel somewhat aggrieved. So, she and Theo left the party shortly after.
As for the other party guests, Gordon apologized and gave them some presents to appease them. So, they left the hotel feeling content. However, there was no telling how they privately talked about the Joneses.
After he saw the last guest out, his smile faded. Turning around, he climbed the stairs as he said to John, who was right next to him. "Destroy today's surveillance. Don't leave anything behind."
John nodded in understanding before he made his way to the surveillance room.
...
Meanwhile, Melody was lying on the couch in the room upstairs. She sobbed so much that her makeup had run. Tessa was crouching next to her, holding a box of tissues.
"Melody, stop crying. Theo has poor taste in ladies and couldn't see how wonderful you are. You know what? You're going to find someone who's miles better than him. That'll show him!"
Douglas stood next to them. He found Melody's anguish hard to bear. Eventually, pity overcame him.
"Theo had actual feelings for Sierra, and he practically begged for the marriage to happen. You should give up on winning his heart. He will never be with you."
What he said was cruel, but it was the truth. Tessa parted her lips and looked at him. However, she didn't stop him from voicing out his thoughts and instead turned to face Melody with a sigh.
Of all people, why did Melody have to fall for the most cold-hearted man?
"But I love Theo, and I have for over a decade. I will give it everything I've got if it's
for him. Why couldn't he just accept me?
"At first, I thought he was not
capable of love. He probably
wouldn't have feelings for me, but he
won't fall for other ladies either. If
that's the case, we'll just be best
friends for the rest of our lives. I could've lived with that.
"However, he went ahead and got married instead," Melody responded as she shed another tear. Then, more tears flowed down her cheeks. Shortly after, the couch was stained as her grievous and furious cries echoed in the room.
Douglas and Tessa were heartbroken, but they didn't even know where to begin to comfort Melody. It wasn't Theo's fault for not falling in love with her, and Sierra was irrefutably innocent in all of this.
They had both secretly helped Melody in her quest for love, but he just didn't have feelings for her. Nobody could've done anything about it.
"Sierra and Benson had been together for many years. Everyone knows just how much she loved him, but Theo would rather marry her, not me. In what ways do I fall short compared to her?"
What do you think?
