Encore of the Avenging Muse (Sylvia and Rupert)

Chapter 227

Rupert pulled out his phone, the screen flashing with the name "Bridget."

He got up and walked to the balcony, turning his back on Sylvia so she couldn't see his expression.

Just moments ago, he was the man who couldn't hold back his emotions, but now he seemed indifferent.

Yet, when he spoke to Bridget, his voice was gentle. "Yeah, I'm here."

After hanging up, Rupert dressed quickly and left without even glancing at Sylvia, offering no explanation.

Sylvia had expected this, her face emotionless as she quietly sat there, still holding the packaging from a bandage.

She knew Rupert's heart was with Bridget.

Sylvia sat in a daze for a long time until the doorbell rang.

She opened the door to find the delivery guy.

"Sorry, miss, I'm a bit late."

"No worries," Sylvia replied with a smile.

The delivery guy looked startled. "Miss, if you're upset, you don't have to force a

smile. Oh, and your leg is bleeding."

Sylvia glanced down, noticing the streak of blood on her leg.

Even a stranger could see it, but Rupert had been oblivious?

Or perhaps he had just chosen to ignore it.

Sylvia dropped her smile, thanked the delivery guy, and closed the door.

Back on the couch, she dabbed at the blood with a tissue, then turned on the TV, picking a comedy to watch while she slurped on her spaghetti.

Every time the movie hit a funny scene, she couldn't help but laugh, only to choke and tear up.

Most comedies start off with silly antics but tend to end with heartfelt moments.

The movie's main characters were no exception.

One moment they were being ridiculous, the next they were having a tearful farewell by the seaside.

"Thank you for staying with me all these days," the heroine, her face pale but smiling genuinely, said. "I'm at peace now."

The hero knelt by her wheelchair, his eyes red. "But I'm not. If I'd

confessed sooner, we wouldn't have

missed out on so much time together. We could have had so

many more days... please, don't leave me." swnovel

"In our next life, speak up sooner, and maybe I... maybe I'll say yes sooner..."

"No..."

Click.

Sylvia turned off the TV before the movie could end.

"Idiots," she muttered under her breath.

After finishing her meal, Sylvia took a shower. Still feeling a bit chilly and worried

about catching a cold, she drank some hot tea and went straight to bed.noveldrama

...

The next day.

As soon as Sylvia walked into the office, she saw Bridget surrounded by her colleagues.

So, she was already back from her "sick leave"?

Bridget was fully dolled up, her lips painted a striking red, though it wasn't nearly

as attention-grabbing as the candy-colored necklace around her neck.

She wore a low-cut top specifically to flaunt Rupert's affection for her.

Sensing Sylvia's gaze, Bridget lifted her elegant neck.

"Mr. Rupert is such a straightforward

guy. I complained about my

medication being bitter and

some candy, so he bought me this kind of candy. What can I say?" swnovel

"A million-dollar candy, sweet enough for anyone. All we can do is envy," a colleague teased.

"Honestly, though, I think companionship is more important than gifts. Mr. Rupert dropped everything to stay with me yesterday. Don't you think so, Sylvia?"

Bridget couldn't just bask in her own glory; she had to drag Sylvia into it.

Sylvia set down her bag, gave Bridget a once-over, and exaggeratedly said, "No wonder you've recovered so quickly. Mr Rupert must have healing powers. But what exactly was wrong with you?"

The mention of illness wiped the smugness off Bridget's face, her bright lipstick

unable to mask the pallor of her lips.
