Chapter 1680
Sometimes, the more you want to protect someone, the harder it is to rush things. Plus, no one really knows what's going on with the Bryant family right now, so it's best not to get involved. Fiona understood this, which is why she thought giving the information to Kimberly was the smartest move.
But Kimberly barely gave the papers a second look before pushing them back, a touch of frustration in her voice. "You should really get rid of this fast. If those old fossils see it, they're going to have a field day, and I'm so over their stubborn nonsense."
Kimberly kept chatting away like a talking machine, throwing in the occasional comment that left Fiona amused, unable to hide her grin.
"Kimberly, you don't need to go out of your way to make me feel better. I'm really alright, and I'm not that easily shattered," Fiona said, holding Kimberly's hand and managing a small smile. "Things will work out as they should. Besides, I can't believe Jasmine would do something like that. The whole thing happened before she was even born. If her family was involved, the blame should fall on those responsible back then, not Jasmine."
"I'm glad you see it that way," Kimberly replied, squeezing Fiona's hand with a hint of concern in her eyes. "Go grab a bite to eat; Jackson's in the study."
Fiona didn't plan on looking for Jackson. She glanced toward the hall where the casket of the Woods family's fourth member was prominently displayed. The cries and arguments hadn't stopped.
She even wondered if Kimberly and Jackson were letting the chaos continue just to watch the drama unfold, like a show.
"Alright, I'll go find my brother," Fiona said, turning to leave. Even as she walked away, the noise from the hall lingered in the air.
In the study, Jackson was buried in paperwork. Fiona stretched out on the couch, where a spread of her favorite snacks was laid out on the coffee table.
The moment Jackson saw her, his earlier anger melted away, replaced with a soft, affectionate look.
"What brings you here?" Jackson
asked, noticing the papers in Fiona's hand and piecing it all together. He moved closer, his voice gentle and soothing, "Don't worry, I'll sort the Bryant family issue. It's
onovou
something I owe not just to you, but to my sister and myself too."
Fiona didn't say a word, just looked at him, feeling like any problem seemed smaller with Jackson around.noveldrama
"Here, aren't these your favorite pastries? got plenty just for you in case you get peckish," Jackson said, unwrapping a pastry and offering it to her. The sweet, floral scent was too tempting for Fiona to resist.
"Let's put Jasmine's situation on the back burner for now. You haven't been sleeping well lately. Why don't you take a nap here, and I'll keep you company, okay?" Jackson coaxed, as if comforting a child.
"Brother, you believe Jasmine wouldn't do something like that, right?" she asked,
voicing the question that had been on her mind.
"No matter what others think, we just need to do the right thing. I'll get to the
bottom of Jasmine's situation. Trust me with it, alright?"
What do you think?
