Chapter 363
"Alright, just leave it there," Allison sighed, a trace of resignation in her voice. She didn't want to give the delivery guy a hard time.
"Got it!" John replied with a wide grin. "You go on with your work, I'll head back now."
Allison nodded, "Okay."
After John left, she looked at the two stunning pieces of jewelry and let out a helpless sigh.
...
In the United States...
Before he became President, Sawyer had been in cahoots with Chris, both benefitting from each other. Chris's vast network was the backbone of Sawyer's election success.
Sawyer's term was coming to an end, and according to U.S. law, presidential candidates must be members of Congress. They are nominated by the Speaker, approved by both houses, and then officially appointed by the President.
Joshua, given his position, couldn't directly get involved in the U.S. presidential election. But he could definitely work his magic from behind the scenes.
Before Sawyer's win, his biggest competition was Martha. She had the pedigree and the prowess, almost clinching the presidency in the last election. But then, out of nowhere, Sawyer surged ahead, surpassing Martha in both public opinion and votes.
Once elected, Sawyer quickly passed a law legalizing cannabis, which was a jackpot for Chris, the head of the biggest gang in the country. That's when Martha realized Sawyer had already cut a deal with Chris.
Chris had poured a ton of money into Sawyer's campaign. Once Sawyer was in power, Chris expanded his influence even more. This emboldened Chris to openly challenge the Fisher family in the UK and attempt several hits on Joshua there.
Joshua's current mission in the U.S. was to back Martha's presidential run. Martha was the polar opposite of Sawyer. While Sawyer was consumed by power and willing to make shady deals with the likes of Chris, Martha was all about integrity and had the country's best interest at heart.
Half a month ago, Mills had already stepped in on Joshua's behalf to support
Martha's campaign. Tomorrow was the big day-election day.
Joshua had brought in a team to capture Chris. Chris's operations were now surrounded so tightly that not even a fly could escape. They were ready to move as soon as Martha's victory was confirmed.
After work, Allison headed home to the Owens family for dinner. The living roomnoveldrama
TV was tuned to international news. Paola, the housekeeper, was busy setting the table with dishes.
Linda came downstairs holding Lizzy's hand. "You're back, Allie."
"Yeah." Allison placed her bag on the sofa and went to wash her hands. When she returned, she saw the news about the U.S. presidential election on TV.
"Today, U.S. presidential candidate Martha Mahana has secured support from more than half of the House of Representatives, becoming the new President of the United States..."
Allison walked up to the TV, eyes
glued to the screen. Was Joshua's
trip to the US. tied to this? He'd mentioned Chris's political support was about to crumble. Could Chris's backing have been Sawyer, the former President?
And what about Joshua now...
Just then, Allison's phone buzzed. Her heart raced as she pulled out her phone, recognizing the familiar number.
"Hello?" Allison answered, her voice tinged with nervous anticipation.
What do you think?
