The Queen Returns—And She's Unforgiving

Chapter 26

Evelyn looked back and met Lucas' dark gaze, and he was holding onto her medical report. Her heart clenched tightly as she lost her composure and snatched it back from him.

"Did you read it?"

Looking at her pale face, he asked, "Why are you so nervous?"

He saw the medical report fall out of her pocket as he made his way toward her, so he picked it up but had not had the chance to look at it yet.

"You're overthinking things, Mr. Grant." Evelyn relaxed, returning to her usual calm and composed demeanor.

Looking at her thoughtfully, Lucas said, "Evelyn, you seemed to love calling me Mr. Grant recently."

She did not explain that it was because Tiffany had brought it up once. Not to mention, they were about to get a divorce soon, so it was only appropriate of her to address him as Mr. Grant.

Shoving the report back into her purse, she asked, "Is something the matter?"

"Are you sick or something?" Lucas did not dwell on the issue as his cold gaze swept over her, showing a rare concern for her.

However, she knew that he did not care at all.

It was especially so after she witnessed how nervous he was over Tiffany's cold.

She knew that he was merely being polite by asking about her health.

He was just brought up well. Despite his cold behavior, he had basic manners and knew how to be polite.

In the past, she would have been touched by his empty concerns.

"It's nothing. I also came here to visit my uncle," she replied impassively, out of courtesy.

"Tiffany is sick," Lucas mentioned suddenly.

Evelyn looked at him, waiting for him to continue.

He remained stoic, and the way he discussed his lover's condition so openly with his own wife was almost laughable.

"That day, she had waited for more than an hour when she went to meet Sebastian at the Flying Seal Group. It resulted in her catching a cold," Lucas elaborated, taking out a cigarette.

Just as he was about to light it up, he decided to put it back.

"Be straightforward, Mr. Grant." Evelyn met his eyes. Did he think that Tiffany had

caught a cold because she had said something to Sebastian?

Looking at her with a cold expression, he questioned, "Why were you at the Flying Seal Group that day?"

Sure enough, she had guessed correctly. He had come after her, not out of concern for her showing up at the hospital, but to get an explanation about what had happened that day.

"Mr. Grant, you and I are living in different worlds here. After resigning from Bluezen, it's only natural for me to find another job to survive. Am I right?" Evelyn asked steadily.

Lucas scrutinized her for a moment. "What kind of work can you possibly do in the Flying Seal Group?"

He let out a short laugh, but his smile did not reach his eyes.

Evelyn understood what he was trying to imply.

In his eyes, she was nowhere near as capable as Tiffany, and he believed that her decision to leave Bluezen was foolish.

"There's no need for you to worry about that." Evelyn had no intention of discussing her current affairs with him. After all, they were about to become strangers, so there was no need for that.

Not to mention, Lucas had no intention of explaining why the food she had prepared for Maria had ended up with Tiffany. It was obvious he had recognized her cooking, yet he didn't do anything to prevent matters from happening.

It was as if she had been reduced to being Tiffany's caretaker.

Was it because he did not care about such trivial matters?

No, it wasn't.

It was because he had never respected her in the first place.

Although Evelyn wasn't being rude or anything, he could still sense her being cold toward him. In fact, he had noticed that she had been acting differently since Tiffany's birthday.

He figured there was a limit to everything. If he left her alone long enough, she would eventually come to terms with her situation.

Scoffing softly, he suggested, "Since you've joined the Flying Seal Group, whether you're an assistant or something else, you might want to advise Sebastian to be flexible. It is necessary to have people skills as a leader."

Evelyn narrowed her eyes.noveldrama

It seemed like Lucas was standing up on Tiffany's behalf. He probably felt bad that she had not been given the respect she deserved.

Although it seemed like he was criticizing Sebastian for being inconsiderate, he was actually blaming Evelyn for targeting Tiffany and reminding her to know her place.

Evelyn did not like arguing over pointless things, but she also did not like being accused of something she had never done.

So, she looked up at Lucas, asking, "Mr. Grant, has it ever crossed your mind that

Mr. Hill chose not to meet her simply because she wasn't qualified?"

No matter how talented Tiffany was, she had no real achievements yet. Did she honestly think she could schedule a meeting with Sebastian whenever she wanted?

Lucas' brows furrowed slightly, after which he said impassively, "The fact that I'm supporting her makes her qualified enough."
