The Queen Returns—And She's Unforgiving

Chapter 31

Evelyn received a reply this time. "Come in."

She pushed the door open. Lucas had just finished showering and changed into fresh clothes. He was currently looking at his phone with his back facing her.

She walked in and noticed his suit jacket had fallen onto the rug. Instinctively, Evelyn walked over to pick it up.

Lucas turned right at that moment. Seeing the suit jacket in her hands, he frowned slightly. "Don't touch my clothes next time."

In the past, Evelyn had personally ironed all his clothes. Therefore, Lucas thought she was planning to deal with it.

Evelyn pursed her lips before throwing the suit jacket down on the rug. "When will

we_"

"You can go to sleep first." Lucas cut Evelyn off, looking at his watch. He didn't care what Evelyn had to say and quickly stepped out of the room.

Evelyn didn't expect him to rush out like that. She had completely lost the chance to discuss the divorce with him.

As for who had caused him to act so impatiently, there was no one else she could think of but Tiffany.

The buzzer rang out from downstairs.

Evelyn's phone vibrated at the same time. It was a voice message from Sebastian.

"Come with me to a dinner banquet in two days! All the important figures in the industry are going to be there. It'd be good to build more connections."

Evelyn answered "okay", then took out the laundry she'd left in the closet before heading back to the guest room to sleep.

The next day, when Maria discovered that Lucas had left for the night, she was absolutely enraged. Evelyn had to calm her down before leaving for Flying Seal Group.

She had now familiarized herself with the company's cases by reading all the necessary documents. She even created a detailed list of regulation guidelines and handed them over to a core staff member of the technical department, Charles Cook.

When he heard that Evelyn had only spent three days reading that huge pile of documents, even going as far as to hand him an impressive folder of technical guidelines, his jaw dropped.

"Did she really do this all by herself?" Charles couldn't believe it.

Sebastian flashed a profound smile. "That's nothing compared to just how popular she was a few years ago. Do you know how many offers were made to her by top universities, both domestically and abroad? I wouldn't dream of measuring up to her, even if I worked for another five years."

Charles was doubtful and ultimately couldn't entirely believe his words. "Mr. Hill, you must be joking. You're part of the first echelon domestically. If you can't compare, what does that make her?"

Sebastian smiled but didn't answer.

If she wasn't a one-in-a-million talent, his dad wouldn't have gotten so furious about her resigning to get married.

It was such a shame. Only an idiot couldn't discern something precious when it was right before his eyes.

...

The dress code for the dinner banquet was formal, but Evelyn didn't have a custom-fitted dress. She had spent three years of her life revolving around Lucas. As it was also a secret marriage, she had no dresses for formal occasions. The only set she owned was a birthday gift from Maria the year before.

It was a dark green satin fishtail dress.

When Maria gifted Evelyn this dress, she also gave Lucas a suit. The cuff links were emerald, which matched the color of her dress.

She hadn't had the opportunity to wear it, and Lucas had never worn that suit.

Evelyn was slightly pale without any makeup. Thus, she put on some blush to obscure the haggardness and put on the dress before heading to the venue.

When he spotted Evelyn, Sebastian couldn't hide his awe and appreciation. "You look great. I almost couldn't recognize you."

Evelyn said, "Sebastian, you're looking quite handsome too."

"Anyone with eyes could see that." Sebastian flexed his arm. "Do your best to impress today. This place is filled with influential people, so if you can connect with them, you'd be laying down the foundations."

Evelyn placed a hand on his arm and took a deep breath. "Got it."

She knew just how important this dinner banquet was.

Even though she had researched and developed UN2, she was currently representing Flying Seal Group.noveldrama

In this circle, Sebastian was currently in the limelight. Moreover, his father was Graham Hill, the academician of the Aerospace Research Institute. No one would dare mess with Sebastian out of respect for his father.

Once Sebastian was done exchanging greetings with most people, he focused on introducing Evelyn. "This is Evelyn Reed, the technical expert Flying Seal recently recruited."

Everyone looked at Evelyn with smiles on their faces, but they secretly scrutinized her.

There was a limited quota for participants in tonight's banquet, and those invited were the cream of the crop in the country. In their eyes, it felt a little tasteless of Sebastian to bring this young woman here.

To think he was willing to give such a precious opportunity to her.

Besides, they had never heard of someone like her. How amazing could she be? Was Sebastian trying to elevate his female companion's status?
