Chapter 33
This was a situation that Evelyn hadn't foreseen. That said, it made sense.
How could Lucas miss the chance to give Tiffany this golden opportunity at such an important banquet?
"Sebastian, I'm sorry for wasting your efforts." In Evelyn's opinion, her grievances against Lucas and Tiffany had caused Sebastian's work to result in nothing.
Bringing her here would have been beneficial to Flying Seal Group. However, Lucas did not give her that chance.
Sebastian frowned. "It's alright. We'll be sitting next to Mr. Stewart, so you still have a chance to talk to him. There are also many opportunities to connect with others."
However, just when they were about to be seated, one of the staff members informed Evelyn, "I'm sorry, Ms. Reed, but there has been a change of VIP members. Your seating has been moved to the next table. Thank you for understanding."
Evelyn raised her head to look in the direction of the table.
She saw Tiffany taking a seat at the main table that was originally allocated to her.
Not sparing Evelyn a glance, Lucas leisurely drank some tea beside Tiffany.
It was a seat meant for her, but he effortlessly and brazenly stole it for Tiffany. She met the eyes of the apologetic staff member.
Evelyn pursed her lips. "Alright."
Sebastian was at the very front and could not pull away from a crowd of big shots. He didn't know what had occurred, and she didn't want to create a disturbance.
Besides, Sebastian had earned his seat in the front row through his own efforts. His father was the famous Professor Hill from the Aerospace Research Institute, so he was qualified to be there.
Who was Evelyn? She was just an unknown nobody brought here by Sebastian.
Lucas had set his mind on placing Tiffany at the front. With his status out there, everyone could tell that he was endorsing her. How could they not do him a favor? In comparison, they could naturally afford to offend someone like Evelyn, who was just an "insignificant employee" from Sebastian's company.
Evelyn didn't know how to feel. She had spent the whole day preparing for tonight's banquet. She had planned on conversing with people of Donald's calibre but had now lost the chance of doing that.
Evelyn took her seat. Only then did she realize that she was sharing a table with Mason.
Mason looked up from his phone and gave the formal dress she was wearing a once-over. It was identical to what Tiffany was wearing.
He abruptly gave an incomprehensible scoff.
Looking away, he returned to his phone.
It was interesting. Was Evelyn trying to join them, instead of getting in between those two?
Lucas and Tiffany were wearing matching outfits. Was it just a "coincidence" that Evelyn chose the same shade of green? What a joke!
Evelyn didn't care what Mason thought and ignored him completely.
The lights in the hall dimmed.
Evelyn got up to use the restroom.
The hall was too cold, and it felt a little unbearable for her. She placed a hand on her forehead, which was slightly feverish to the touch. Her abdomen was starting to ache, and she wobbled with every step she took. She needed to find an uninhabited spot to rest.
However, she didn't expect to bump into Jason at the restroom entrance.
Evelyn was feeling unwell, so she pretended not to see him. She could only walk past him to go in.
But just as she was about to approach him, sharp pain traveled from her abdomen, causing her knees to go weak.
Jason reacted quickly, instinctively reaching to steady her arm. "Are you feeling unwell?"
Evelyn pulled away without a second thought. She said coolly, "Thanks."
Seeing how she pushed him away, Jason pursed his lips and glanced at her. "Do
you have something against me?"
She was now treating him like he didn't exist.
Evelyn paused and looked at him seriously. "Yeah. I don't like you guys."
She sure wasn't mincing her words.
Jason was struck speechless.
He still hadn't come to his senses when Evelyn vanished from his line of sight. A man's low voice traveled through his phone. "Did you do something to offend this lady?"
Only then did Jason come around. He replied, "Maybe."
He recalled the times he had treated Evelyn with an unfriendly attitude.
But Evelyn had always been indifferent to it—until now.
She had changed and was no longer as gentle and friendly as before. Now, she was cold, distant, and had the apathy of someone who didn't respect someone she deemed insignificant.
Jason suddenly felt a little uncomfortable.
The man at the other end of the line said, "Yeah. Serves you right."
Sebastian only found out about Tiffany taking Evelyn's seat after he was done exchanging small talk with those who came to greet him.
By then, Tiffany was already seated comfortably and conversing happily with Donald. Even if he was displeased, it wasn't appropriate to show it by interrupting them.
He couldn't find Evelyn, so he gave her a call.
She didn't pick up.
Sebastian was worried. Just as he was about to send some staff members to search for her, Jason returned. He said absent-mindedly, "She went to the restroom."
Sebastian felt relieved.
Mason frowned and leaned close to Lucas in the front row. "Isn't Mr. Hill a little too concerned for Evelyn? Is this a normal relationship between a superior and subordinate?"
Lucas didn't react. It seemed like he didn't care.
Inexplicably, Jason said, "I don't think she's the kind of person to do that."
Mason shrugged. "You have a point. She's been chasing after Lucas like a fool for so many years. She probably wouldn't leave Lucas even if the world ended."noveldrama
