Unconscious Husband: Meet Her Love In Silence

Chapter 1817

Why arent you sleeping? Holden asked gently.

I was, but my phone buzzed with spam messages, waking me up.

I was just about to silence it, Ariana lied, carefully crafting her words.

Im feeling drowsy now, ready to slip back into sleep.

Youve been burning the candle at both ends with all your work.

Dont worry about me; Im fine here.

If I need anything, Ill just ring the bell for the nurse.

As soon as Ariana finished, she gently nudged Holden away, signaling him to get back to his duties.

However, Holden didnt leave.

He lowered his head and planted soft kisses on her hair, her eyelids, and her lips.noveldrama

He said, I know youre missing Melon.

Its okay to cry when the sadness hits.

You dont have to put on a brave face for me.

Arianas eyes brimmed with tears when she heard Holdens gentle words. Even though she knew Holden had seen through her, she clung desperately to her facade, burying her face against his chest.

Why are you saying such strange things? Im fine.

But even as she spoke, her resolve crumbled, the last word dissolving into a choked sob.

Holdens arms tightened around her.

Yes, you are right.

You are fine.

Im sorry.

Please dont cry.

He paused and then added softly, Are you hungry? Is that why you cant sleep? I could have someone bring you some food.

Or maybe youd like me to cook something for you? Arianas lip trembled as she shook her head, eyes downcast.

No need for that.

Im not hungry.

You should go back to the company for your meeting.

Even though Ariana urged Holden again and again to leave, Holden still held her tightly and comforted her.

His tenderness completely broke her last line of defense, and she finally cried out loud.

She admitted, I was looking at Melons photos earlier.

I miss him so much.

Im sorry, Holden.

I know how busy you are and how exhausted you must be.

I didnt mean to be so fragile, but I… I just cant control my emotions.

Im so worried about Melon.

I miss him terribly.

Every night, Im consumed by guilt that I havent been able to protect our children… Holdens heart constricted at her words.

You have nothing to be sorry for, he said, his voice hoarse with emotion.

If anyone should apologize, its me.

He felt the weight of failure, a heavy cloak draped over him for not living up to the role of a good husband and father.

In the beginning, he had believed in Arianas act, thinking she remained composed.

After all, she had always been the strong one, seemingly unaffected during the day.

So, he had thrown himself into work and the search for Melon.

But last night, rest had evaded him, and he had stumbled upon a disheartening truth-Ariana had been feigning sleep. Once she believed he was asleep, she had stealthily slipped from the bed and escaped to the balcony for a drink.

There had never been a bottle of wine in their room, and he couldnt fathom where Ariana had procured the drink as a patient.

Watching her drink, he had realized it wasnt her first time doing this.

Anger had flared within him as he gazed at her back.

He had been frustrated that she hadnt been taking care of herself, especially wearing not enough clothes in the biting cold when her wounds were still fresh.

But deep down, concern had overshadowed his anger.

He understood her drinking stemmed from her fear that Melon might be in danger, taken away by Zayden.

After all, Zayden was their adversary.

So, rather than confront Ariana last night, he had feigned sleep.

Today, when the nurse had taken Eliana away for an examination, he had discovered the hidden bottles of wine beneath the bed.

Determined to put an end to her drinking, he worried that simply taking the wine away might raise her suspicions.

Instead, he had secretly swapped the red wine for juice.

Holden snapped back to reality.

He gazed into Arianas red eyes, tenderly brushing away the tear on her face.
