Chapter 34
Chapter 34:.
When Dolores stood in front of Matthew’s office door, she breathed in deeply and after a while, finally gathered enough courage to knock on the door.
A faint reply came from inside the room, then she pushed the door open….
The decor of Matthew’s office was very modern and simplistic. The color scheme was minimalistic, which showed his maturity and total empathy. On one side was a French window that allowed a generous amount of sunlight into the office. If one stood in front of the window, one could take in the view of the entire city.
Matthew was busy scanning documents. He didn’t even raise his head to respond to his visitor.
Dolores stood in front of his desk and held out the translated document for him to see.
Matthew didn’t accept it, he simply said. “Put that on the table.”
Dolores placed the documents on his desk before trying to broach the subject of taking it with her back home. However, she was having a hard time saying anything.
Should she simply say, Mr. Nelson, can you come with me to my home for a while? Dolores was sure she would be instantly rebuffed if she tried.
Matthew probably thought the visitor was Helen as she asked, “What is it?”
He leafed through the document while keeping his head down. His eyes did not leave the documents.
“Mr. Nelson, I want to ask you a favor,” Dolores said, finally mustering enough courage.
As if finally noticing the unfamiliar voice, he looked up and saw Dolores standing hesitantly in front of his desk.
Dolores forced a hasty smile as she greeted him. “Mr. Nelson.”
At the sight of her, there was a glint of something in his eyes, but it was fleeting. Her appearance in his office was something he had probably never considered.
Matthew closed the file as he leaned back in his chair. He scanned her slowly from face to toe. He studied her with the utmost care, not overlooking any of her odd features.
“Do you have a favor to ask me?”
Dolores tried to avoid meeting his mocking gaze. “Mr. Nelson, have you noticed that I’ve been plagued with problems lately because of you?”
“Oh?” Matthew was surprised that she had actually said that.
Dolores clenched her fists to calm herself as she continued. “Helen has been making life difficult for me at the company and I think you know very well what she’s been doing, Mr. Nelson. Yesterday, my life was even in danger and it was all because of my current identity as your wife. So, with my safety in mind, would you please escort me back home just this once?”
Matthew narrowed his eyebrows as he massaged his temples. He didn’t respond for a while.
Dolores was still pinned in place as her heart pounded in her chest. She didn’t know what his answer would be.
“Can you come with me to the Flores Family once?” Dolores repeated her request.
His response was husky and soft. “Oh?”
Why not answer me directly? Dolores was trying hard to ignore her frustrations. She wanted to rephrase her request, but after turning the idea over in her head for a while, she still thought she was being a bit inappropriate. As she continued to rack her brains, her gaze fell on his movements. He was rubbing his temples at the moment.
Since he was asking her for a favor, Dolores suddenly had an idea.
She walked behind his desk and approached him as she spoke awkwardly. “Here, let me help you.”
He lowered his hands and closed his eyes as if giving her permission.
Dolores had no previous experience giving massages, so she tried lightly pressing on his temples.
When his fingers touched her skin, she felt her body tighten.
Dolores imagined he must feel a little uncomfortable, so she slowed her force as she tentatively asked. “Is this enough?” his muffled voice answered her approvingly.
Dolores continued to rub his temples on either side of his face, exerting just the right amount of pressure that he seemed to like. Her skin lacked excess oil and was very elastic. From his perspective, he could contemplate her well-sculpted face, her neck, her Adam’s apple and her side profile. It was a very sexy sight.
Dolores looked away, she didn’t want to get lost in such a spectacle.
She ventured again, “I don’t intend anything more by asking you to walk me home. It’s a simple dinner.”
His eyes were narrowed and it was clear he didn’t believe her words, replying in a sarcastic tone. “Is that so?”noveldrama
Dolores’s heart leapt into her throat. It seemed that nothing could escape her intuition.
She decided to be honest with him. “I want to show our ‘mutual affection’ in front of Randolph so I can get back what belonged to me from him. With that in mind, Mr. Nelson, would you accept my invitation?”
Dolores feared the possibility that he would reject her out of hand, so she added. “Mr. Nelson, I almost got burned by the hot water today. If it weren’t for the fact that your girlfriend thinks too highly of me, I don’t think such an accident would have happened, don’t you think?” She paused briefly before adding, “The last time we were at home, I had just finished a translation for you and we agreed on a price for my work. However, you still haven’t paid me. I spent all night on that translation, but now I don’t keep asking you for the money. Just do me this one favor, Mr. Nelson.”
He finally looked up at her, “If that’s what you really want, then there’s no way I can refuse anymore.”
“Thank you, Mr. Nelson-”
A pounding on the door interrupted Dolores before she could finish her words.
Dolores tensed and abruptly withdrew her fingers from Matthew’s head as she stepped aside. Matthew merely looked at her without saying a word. He approved of her reaction at that moment.
Dolores looked down at the floor as she fiddled with her thumbs. Her palms were soaked with cold sweat at that moment. If she hadn’t intended to borrow some of Matthew’s influence, she would never have flattered him like that.
She had no one to back her up in her endeavor, so she could only employ the services of her ‘husband’ to regain what once belonged to her.
Helen entered the office with some papers in her hands, and when she caught sight of Dolores, a hint of brutality crossed her eyes…..
