After getting a call from someone in the village, Ella went out and bought a newspaper.

After reading it, Ella felt utterly humiliated by Clara. Everyone in Hill Family Village must know about Clara's scandal by now. If she went back, she wouldn't be able to avoid the questions.

Thinking about this, Ella couldn't help but feel furious.

Clara was stunned when the newspaper hit her. She picked it up from the floor and saw herself on the front page.

The headline featured a photo of her and Desmond entering a hotel together. Even though the newspaper was in black and white, the bold headline was glaringly obvious.

Clara nearly ground her teeth to dust, her face twisted in anger as she clenched the newspaper. "This has to be the Elise family's doing!"

"Does it matter who did it? It's your own lack of decency that's the problem! Now I can't even go back home because of you!" Ella didn't care who published the story; she was just furious with Clara.

Clara appearing in the newspaper like this made Ella lose face in front of everyone in Hill Family Village.

Moreover, this was the Luminous City Morning News. Now everyone in Luminous City would know Clara was a woman of loose morals.

Clara glared at Ella coldly. "You got your money, now leave!"

"Handle your own mess! Don't drag me into it!" Ella spat and left with the money.

She didn't want to completely fall out with Clara, as she still hoped to get more money from her in the future.

After Ella left, Clara didn't go back to her room. Instead, she went to Oliver's room. "Dad, Ella came again. She threatened me."

Clara started crying as soon as she knocked on the door and it opened.

"How dare that woman come here again?" Oliver hadn't been out much these past few days, but he remembered running into Ella at his door when he came home injured from Laura's attack.

At that time, Ella had also threatened him.

Knowing that Ella had found out Clara's address from him, stolen Clara's money, and scared her into the hospital, he felt a pang of regret.

Now that Clara was crying to him, he genuinely felt sorry for her.

"She saw me in the newspaper and insulted me," Clara sobbed, her voice choked with emotion. "I was only photographed with Desmond because I was begging him to find a doctor to save Mom."

Hearing Clara mention Elodie, Oliver took the newspaper from her hand and saw the headline and the photo of Clara and Desmond.

"How dare Ella! No matter what, you're still a member of the Manners family! Who is she to say anything?"

Oliver was in a foul mood, especially since the police had repeatedly questioned him about the day Elodie was injured. He had been losing his temper frequently.

Hearing that Clara was also trying to wake Elodie, he tried to control his anger.

Clara whispered through her tears, "I think Ella came after me because Katniss told her to. And Dad, I think Katniss is behind your troubles too."

His excitement caused the wounds Laura had inflicted to ache, but he gritted his teeth and transferred all his hatred to Katniss.

"Right, Laura loved you so much, she wouldn't have done those things on her own," Clara said, following Oliver's lead. "Katniss must have done something to make Laura the way she is now."

"Katniss did something to Laura?" Oliver was both furious and fearful.

He was angry at Katniss's cruelty and fearful that if Laura hadn't lost her mind, she might have accused him of pushing Elodie.

"Katniss must have done it! She was afraid Laura would reveal her secrets, so she went to such extremes!" Clara said, watching Oliver's reaction.

Worried that Oliver might not believe her, Clara continued, "Dad, I was tied up at a construction site one morning. That must have been Katniss's doing! She loves to do things like that!"

"She did that too?" Oliver was livid.

Clara had always been the family's darling, never allowed to suffer any hardship, especially given her poor health. They had always been particularly protective of her. But Katniss dared to have Clara kidnapped!
