Not Your Doormat Anymore

I felt embarrassed by all the praise. After all, the original reason behind the decision to start serving free lunch wasn't entirely for everyone else.

Thankfully, Lindsey didn't say anything else. She grabbed a tray and started to queue. She stood in the crowd with an upright posture. Her demeanor stood out from the employees around her.

I stood in the queue after Lindsey. Upon seeing my actions, Lindsey looked at me more kindly. Meanwhile, Mira shrank her shoulders slightly and queued behind

me.

However, I noticed a problem. The staff working at the cafeteria had low efficiency. With the way things were, the employees who came over later would take at least half an hour waiting in the queue, which would seriously cut into their break time.

"If they prepped lunch boxes instead and people could just pick up a set as they arrived, would it be better?" While holding an empty tray, I couldn't help but think about it.

"But wouldn't that mean people might get food they don't like? Isn't that wasteful?" Mira tilted her head and asked.

Lindsey joined in on the conversation. "Some food waste is unavoidable. Perhaps we could pre-portion the meals like lunchboxes and set them out in advance. That way, everyone can choose what they want freely. We can just assign someone to monitor the flow and keep order."

"Since Mr. Ranford agrees with this, we'll go ahead and start implementing this next week."

Mira widened her eyes. "Wait, it can be changed just like that?"

She had never seen a company move this efficiently before. From what she had read online, changes like this usually had to go through endless procedures and would take at least a month.

With a smile, Lindsey said, "Mr. Ranford is in charge of our company. Of course, we act on his word as soon as possible."

I scratched my nose. My words carried that much weight?

After queueing for more than ten minutes, it was finally our turn. Once we had filled our tray, there weren't many seats left.

I took a few more steps forward, and that was when I saw a familiar figure. It was Kourtney. She was eating in a corner and was the only one at the table. There were three empty seats at her table, which was just right for the three of us.

I was delighted when I saw that. I

waved at Lindsey and Mira to get

over to Kourtney's table. When we arrived near Kourtney's table a female employee walked over.

Initially, I thought that that employee wanted to sit with Kourtney to have lunch together. To my surprise, she knocked on the table directly. Hurry up and get up. Ms. Livingston is coming over to eat later."

As we were nearby, we could see and hear the woman's nasty looks and voice clearly. At that, my expression darkened.

Kourtney didn't even fight back. She held her tray, which she had barely touched, and stood up to vacate the seat.

I strode over and placed my tray on the table. "No one's sitting here, right? Let the three of us have our meal here."

Without giving the female employee a chance to react, Lindsey, Mira, and I took our seats. Lindsey also blocked Kourtney's path to leave.

Upon seeing me, Kourtney was surprised and delighted. Nonetheless, the

situation wasn't right at the moment. She had no idea what to do.

"Why are you guys sitting here? Kourtney has saved these seats!"

The female employee knocked on the table and reminded us, but alkof us her. Lindsey wiped k

cutlery calmly and looked at

"You don't like carrots?"

Mira nodded with might. "I can't take a single bite of carrots. I'm also allergic to beans."

"Is it serious?" I asked.

Mira nodded and then shook her head. "I break out in hives when I eat them, but

the reaction isn't very severe."

"Are you all even listening to me?"

The female employee realized that she was being ignored and slammed the table angrily. Again, no one cared about her.

"Kourtney, are you mute?" She targeted Kourtney again.
