Not Your Doormat Anymore

Chapter 66

Kourtney opened her mouth, wanting to say something. Then, she looked at me. It was obvious she had no idea what to do.

Lindsey smiled and looked at Kourtney. "You still have a lot of food left. Do you have something urgent to attend to? If you don't, sit here and eat with us."

"Hey, didn't you hear me? These are our seats. You can't just take them!" The woman continued to shout.

At that, Kourtney, who was about to sit down again, hesitated once more. Visibly torn, she stuttered, "I-I..."

Lindsey's expression became stern. "The cafeteria is a public area. As long as there's an empty seat, any employee can take it."

"Do you know who Ms. Livingston is? How dare you raise your voice at me?" The female employee glared at Lindsey.

"I truly don't know who she is. Why don't you have her come here? Let me get to know her." Lindsey looked at the female employee with a dull gaze.

When the female employee was about to speak up, another voice sounded from behind. "What's wrong? Didn't you say the seats have been saved?"

A woman with a sweet appearance walked over. She had two lackeys behind her. Upon seeing the table full of people, she frowned.

"Kourtney, did you only save a seat for yourself?"

"I..." Kourtney lowered her head in embarrassment and avoided everyone's gaze. "Are you her superior?" I asked.noveldrama

The woman seemed young, but if she could order her colleagues around, it meant that her position was quite high.

"I'm Kourtney's team leader. Because of Kourtney, our team is late for lunch. So, she offered to save seats for us. It seems that the outcome isn't great." The woman's gaze swept across the table before landing on me.

"She had already saved our seats, but they suddenly came over and sat down. They wouldn't leave no matter what," complained the female employee from before.

The woman's gaze flickered. Then, she smiled. "I'm sorry for the trouble. Since there aren't any empty seats here, we'll eat somewhere else. Let's go."

The woman turned around to leave. Even though the female employee from earlier was displeased, she had no choice but to follow the woman. Nonetheless, after taking a few steps, she realized that Kourtney was still sitting in the same spot. She turned around and called out, "Kourtney?"

Kourtney froze. "Can I go over after I finish my meal?"

"Because you left early to save seats for us, you didn't manage to hear some

things. You should come with us. I'll explain it to you." The woman's warm smile seemed kind.

"A-Alright then."

Kourtney held her tray and was about to get up when I spoke up. "Sit down."

Kourtney was taken aback and looked at me. "Because of this disruption, you've barely had a few bites. By the time you get there, your food will turn cold."

I looked at the woman. "It's break

time now. If there are any work-related matters, you can discuss them with her during working hours. You don't have the right to take up her lunchtime and make her work overtime."

The woman blinked, not responding to what I said. She only stared at Kourtney. Because of that, Kourtney pursed her lips and looked like she was about to cry.

"Sit down and continue eating," I repeated.

Kourtney sat back down silently.

Once the woman confirmed Kourtney's choice, she smiled even

more sweetly. "Sir, you're right. didn't think this through. Kourtney, you should eat first. We'll talk when it's time to get back to work."

Then, the woman left. On the other hand, Kourtney lowered her head and ate her food without saying a word.

Mira looked at me, hesitating to say something. Lindsey remained silent too.

"Are you the reason the team's progress has slowed down?" I asked.

Kourtney shuddered, and her eyelashes fluttered. "I'm new, so there are many things I don't understand. That's why-"

"You're an intern. Interns have tasks designed for interns. The company wouldn't entrust you with important tasks. You can't slow down their progress."
