Chapter 68
Kourtney never expected I would come over to her department and fire her teammates. She wanted to say something, but she couldn't bring herself to say anything even though she was anxious.
Her teammates had indeed given her a lot of tasks, but everyone had gone through such situations before.
Besides, she had already been working here for more than a month. She only needed to endure half a month more to pass the probation period and become an official employee. By then, no one would treat her this way again.
But at the same time, she didn't want to make things difficult for me. Whether or not she admitted it, it was a difficult choice for her.
In a panic, Kourtney met my gaze. I looked at her deeply, my gaze full of pain and concern for her. Then, she slowly relaxed her clenched fists.
"I don't know if it counts as bullying. Everyone gave me a lot of tasks to let me gain experience," said Kourtney in a muffled voice while keeping her head down.
"We gave her a lot of tasks because we want her to adapt to this job better. How is this considered bullying?"
"That's right. She said so herself that it's to gain experience!"
The few women defended themselves again. At that, my expression darkened. "What's up with the commotion here? Don't you all need to work?"
At this time, Rachel walked over. When she saw what was going on, she gasped in surprise. Then, her gaze landed on me. "Who is this?"
"This is Mr. Jace Ranford, the company's newly appointed general manager," said Lindsey dully.
The look in Rachel's eyes shifted, and there was a hint of intrigue now.
"They're indeed careless, often giving Kourtney their tasks. Of course, it's wrong. But this can't be considered bullying. They've been working here for many years and are attached to the company. Mr. Ranford, could you perhaps show them a bit of leniency? Even if they haven't made any major contributions, they've at least been working hard all these years."noveldrama
Rachel stared at me with bright eyes, clearly trying to win my favor. Upon hearing that, I frowned. I hadn't even said much, yet they had so much to say for themselves.
"When did it become your place to speak on Mr. Ranford's decisions?" Lindsey could tell I was displeased. She turned to look at Rachel, and her smile stiffened.
"Mr. Ranford saw this entire
situation firsthand today in the cafeteria, And just now, when he
came to inspect the department net
these women weren't even at their desks. They were goofing off
Meanwhile, the new hire, Kourtney, was doing all their tasks and running their errands."
Once Lindsey spoke up, everyone went silent. She looked around and continued, "The moment Mr. Ranford speaks, all of you suddenly have a thousand excuses ready. If someone didn't know better, they might think you were the general manager."
The few women lowered their heads, not daring to say another word. Then, Lindsey stopped talking and looked at me.
I cleared my throat and said, "I've just taken over this position not too long ago and to be honest, encountering such a thing right away is extremely disappointing. Even interns are employees of this company. They shouldn't be treated like errand runners.
"From now on, this will be included in the company's code of conduct. No one is allowed to push their tasks to an intern. Anyone who violates this will be subject to disciplinary action."
After saying that, I looked at the few of them. "You've all been here a while, so this probably isn't the first time you've done something like this.
"How about this? Instead of firing you guys, l'transfer you to other departments, and you'll serve as interns for two months. During your internship, your salary will be cut in half. If you pass the probationary period, you can return. If not...."
My expression became stern as I continued, "You can leave."
"Aren't you guys going to thank Mr. Ranford for not firing you all?"
The few of them stayed silent until Rachel prompted them. It was only then that
they thanked me reluctantly.
"You too." I looked at Rachel.
What do you think?
