Reborn From Oblivion

Chapter 870

Morris kept his face blank, but his handsome eyebrows were furrowed with concern. Lincoln continued, "Ashley called you Nathan, so is your last name Rowland? Are you really the heir of the Rowland family? No wonder my brother thinks so highly of you; it's because of your prestigious family background."

Yet, Lincoln didn't seem impressed by Morris's noble roots. In fact, he looked down on him even more. "But don't think I'll respect you just because you come from a fancy family. I'm not superficial. My daughter doesn't need to marry into wealth; she's already got that. I just want her to find someone who genuinely loves and cherishes her."

Morris suddenly felt a playful urge and teased, "How do you know I'm not the one who truly loves and cherishes her?"

He had given his heart, his everything to her. How could Lincoln be so blind to it?

Lincoln retorted with arrogance, "You might have a tiny bit of affection for her. But with your on-again, off-again behavior with Ashley, I would never let my daughter end up with a guy as fickle as you. You're not committed."

Morris sighed silently. He shot Lincoln a piercing look. "If I hadn't kept things ambiguous with Ashley, do you think your daughter would have walked away from me?"

Lincoln was taken aback. "What are you saying? Did you really flirt with Ashley just to mislead my daughter?"

Morris nodded slightly, confirming it.

Lincoln thought for a moment, then muttered, "Do you really not care for my daughter? What's wrong with her? Or are you judging her because she's been married before?"

"No..." Morris shouted, his voice filled with emotion. "I've never looked down on her."

Not being able to stop her from marrying Cameron was his biggest regret. Every time he thought about it, it tore at his heart. How could he ever despise her?noveldrama

Lincoln paused, "If that's the case, why don't you care for my daughter?"

Morris could only reply, "Fate is something you encounter, not something you chase."

With that, he wheeled himself away leaving behind a sense of freedom. But Lincoln, watching him leave, could see a hint of sadness and loneliness in his retreating figure.

"Are you really from the Rowland family, the ones from the south side of the city?" Lincoln suddenly asked.

Morris hesitated for a long time before giving a barely noticeable nod.

Lincoln's teacup slipped from his hand and shattered on the floor. Morris turned back, silently watching Lincoln.

Lincoln awkwardly squatted down, gathering the pieces with an embarrassed smile. "I slipped."

Morris turned his wheelchair back around to face him. "Why are you so shocked to hear I'm from the Rowland family?"

Lincoln tossed the shards into the trash and sank onto the couch, looking dejected. Then he began to share a sad story.

"Your father, in his younger days, was quite the rogue." As Lincoln mentioned Gavin, his eyes turned bloodshot, filled with a fierce intensity.

Morris, however, remained calm and composed.

"Back then, your dad, the McCoy family's eldest daughter Kelly, the Sharp family's Jules, and I were childhood buddies. We were carefree, and Kelly, with her tomboyish charm, was incredibly smart and fit right in with us.

"Who would've thought that as we grew up, we'd start having crushes? Kelly matured early and liked me, while Jules was into Kelly. But these feelings were honest and straightforward. Kelly once said, 'Lincoln, if you don't find someone you love in the future, let's just stick together. I'm pretty, and I know you well. The key thing is, at least I love you. We might not have a wild romance, but we'll definitely have a steady warmth.' Isn't that true?"
