The President’s Mistake A Tale of Love and Regret

Chapter 508 Shattered Trust

Nathaniel hung up on Freya, taking a deep breath. He couldn't believe she was still pressing him about the divorce agreement. Although ignoring her calls felt a bit childish, it was less painful than hearing her talk about divorce directly.

"Mr. Nathaniel," Koen walked in, standing before Nathaniel. He had changed into a jacket, which was bulging suspiciously, clearly hiding something.

"Everyone is ready. Should we head to Ravenwood now?"

Koen and his team had discovered that Ethan's hometown was Ravenwood, where he owned a large vineyard. Nathaniel had stationed people at all the exits and the airport, combining forces with Sawyer's men to ensure Luna couldn't escape. Right now, Luna's only refuge would be Ethan.

Nathaniel's expression darkened. He despised being played, and Luna had crossed a line. Freya was his bottom line.

"Let's go. I'm coming too."

"Mr. Nathaniel," Koen quickly interjected, "we can handle it. It's better if you stay here."

Nathaniel pocketed a handgun into his coat and shot Koen a cold glance. "I no longer trust you all."

Koen was left speechless, his face twitching slightly, unable to argue.

The situation in Pontenero had deteriorated, and they all bore some responsibility.

It was no wonder Nathaniel had lost faith in them.

"Mr. Nathaniel," Koen hesitated. "Hudson... he wants to join us too."

"He stays here."

Nathaniel's tone was icy, and Koen didn't dare plead further for Hudson. He followed Nathaniel out of the room.

Nathaniel paused after taking a few feet and turned to face Koen. "We must properly inspect every individual holding authority in Pontenero. Deal with those that need to be dealt with, and eliminate those that should be removed. We are at Pontenero, and I am in charge of it."

He added, "Check all the surveillance footage. Anyone found conspiring behind my back, throw them out."

A thin layer of sweat appeared on Koen's forehead. Checking all the surveillance felt excessive, but it showed just how furious Nathaniel was this time.

Koen quickly acknowledged the command and followed Nathaniel out of the apartment. To his surprise, a tall man in a gray trench coat with an upturned collar approached them.

Hudson?

Koen was startled. He had advised Hudson not to come, yet here he was, making the situation even more awkward.

"Mr. Nathaniel," Hudson blocked Nathaniel's path, leaving him no room to leave. Nathaniel glared at Hudson, fuming. This was their first encounter in days, during which Nathaniel had deliberately kept Hudson at arm's length.

"Get out of my way!" Nathaniel growled, trying to sidestep Hudson. If they hadn't been friends, he would have kicked him aside without hesitation.noveldrama

Hudson remained unmoved. Nathaniel's frustration was palpable; his gun nearly pointed at Hudson's forehead. Suddenly, Hudson dropped to his knees.

Koen opened his mouth to speak, but Ozzy grabbed his arm and signaled for him to stay quiet. Given the situation, trying to intervene would be pointless.

"Mr. Nathaniel, let me handle this. This isn't just your problem; it's mine too. I was the one who persuaded you to keep Luna," Hudson pleaded. "I should take responsibility. I need to ask her what all these years of brotherhood meant to her."

Nathaniel's brows furrowed deeply as he stared coldly at Hudson. "Brotherhood? Is that all? Do you think we're blind?"

Hudson was stunned, his gaze dimming as he stood there, feeling as if he'd been slapped in the face.

Hudson had always had feelings for Luna, but she was interested in Nathaniel. Knowing he couldn't compare to Nathaniel, Hudson had tried to support her. He never expected things to spiral out of control, with Nathaniel falling for the daughter of his enemy, believing no other woman could compare.

He had allowed Luna back into Technologent Group because he saw she had moved on and gotten engaged. Nathaniel's words now cut him deeply, like knives.

Everyone stood in awkward silence, sensing that this confrontation could lead to a complete falling out.

Nathaniel stared coldly at Hudson. "Get lost! Don't make me deal with you myself!"

"Nathaniel!" Hudson shouted back. "Even if she's at fault, can't you?"

"No!" Nathaniel interrupted, his refusal swift and firm.

He continued to glare at Hudson. "Everyone is trying to force me to forgive the

ones you love. You, and even Taylor, who's already gone."

"In your minds, you think Freya is less important than the people you love. When Abigail harmed her and Luna plotted against her, none of you stepped in to stop them or plead for Freya's sake."

"I'm telling you all now, each and every one of you, none of you are as important as her!"

The atmosphere turned icy, a tense silence enveloping everyone. No one dared to speak.

Nathaniel walked past the kneeling Hudson and headed toward his car.

Hudson, still on his knees, suddenly turned and shouted at Nathaniel.

"Do you think you bear no responsibility?"

"Wasn't it you who allowed Abigail to frame Freya?"

"Didn't Luna set up the trap for Freya only after you had fought with her and left Pontenero?"

"When things go wrong, it's always our fault. But what about you? You were the first to use Freya, nearly killing her. You underestimated her, Nathaniel!"

Bang!

A gunshot rang out.

Koen rushed toward Hudson. The pavement in front of Hudson was

cattered by the bullet, its fragments

cutting into his face, leaving bis handsome features bloodied.

Koen breathed a sigh of relief. That was a close call.

These men had been through life and death together for years, but now a woman had driven them to this breaking point.

It was hard to say who was whose disaster.

Nathaniel had destroyed the Gomez family, and now it seemed Freya had come

back to destroy them.

Ozzy opened the car door, and Nathaniel climbed in. Koen patted Hudson's shoulder before getting into the driver's seat.

The car ride was tense and oppressive; even Koen, usually cheerful, felt a pang of sadness.

They were heading from Pontenero to Ravenwood overnight. Sawyer's people had already found leads on Ethan. They couldn't afford to fose to Sawyer, so everyone was Serious and determined.

Nathaniel remained silent, leaning back in his seat.

Koen carefully turned down the car's music and adjusted the air conditioning.

Unexpectedly, Nathaniel broke the silence.

"Do you all hate me?"

Koen was so startled he nearly swerved off the road.

After a long pause, Nathaniel let out a bitter laugh. "I hate myself too."
