Chapter 507 Freya’s Promise to Mason
When Mason heard Freya's words, he looked confused. Suddenly, he felt a sharp pain in his head, like a needle piercing through, making him want to hold his head.
However, his arms were still in splints, and he flushed with frustration, eventually breaking into loud sobs, the kind of cries that come from deep-seated grievances finally being released in the presence of a loved one.
"Mason!" Freya gently embraced her brother, holding him tightly, unsure of what to say. He seemed different from before, somewhat odd, as if he'd been struck dumb.
Mason buried his head in Freya's chest, unable to remember who this woman calling herself his sister was. She claimed to be his sister, but he couldn't recall.
Whenever he tried to think about the past, his head throbbed painfully, leaving him speechless.
Freya didn't know how to explain the current state of the Gomez family to her brother. She thought it best to first take him back to Saeville to see their mother and then visit their father's grave in the countryside cemetery.
A few years ago, a catastrophe hit the Gomez family, leaving everyone drifting outside the family, living a miserable existence.
"Don't cry. I'll protect you from now on. No one will ever hurt you again, never again." Freya took a deep breath and held the young boy tightly, repeatedly murmuring her vow through her tears.
Sawyer, sitting nearby, felt a pang of sorrow watching the siblings. He didn't know how to comfort them but believed that the dark times would eventually pass.
He coughed softly, stood up, walked over to Freya, and patted her shoulder before gently ruffling Mason's hair.
"I've already bought your tickets," Sawyer said, pausing, "but how will you handle them?"
Sawyer stopped, glancing at Mason. He decided not to discuss sensitive matters in front of the boy.
Freya understood what Sawyer meant. She was not only the eldest daughter of the Gomez family but also Nathaniel's wife, Mrs. Morgan. She needed to resolve her situation with Nathaniel before returning to Seville.
"I'll handle it myself, thank you," Freya replied with a grateful smile.
Sawyer waved his hand and took Mason's hand gently.
"His arms are injured," Freya reminded him.
Sawyer smiled, "I know. I wouldn't want to hurt my future brother-in-law."
Freya was momentarily taken aback, choosing not to say anything more. Sawyer's jokes always came unexpectedly, but they masked his careful, protective nature and the hidden affection he had for her.
Sawyer led Mason out of the waiting room first and waited for Freya in the car.
In the waiting room, Freya met Mason's attending physician, Charlotte, a kind middle-aged woman dressed in a colorful Bohemian-style dress. Her attire was not overly formal, making her seem approachable.
"Ms. Freya, please have a seat. There are some things about your brother that I need to explain," Charlotte said, her expression turning serious.
Freya sat down and looked at Charlotte. "Thank you for helping Mason. He was in a car accident three years-no, more accurately, four years ago—and he got separated from the family. I only just found him."
Charlotte nodded and handed a file box to Freya. Freya quickly opened it.
Charlotte continued, "Inside are the examination reports. Your brother suffered a severe head injury, not an external one, but an internal injury with clotted blood that wasn't treated in time. Because of this, his memory is impaired."
Freya's hands clenched tightly around the file, her guilt weighing heavily on her.
Seeing Freya's distress, Charlotte tried to comfort her. "Don't be too hard on yourself. Your brother is still young, and there's a possibility of recovery."
"Also, besides the head injury, your brother has a reaction to certain medications. It seems he was drugged over a long period, which affected his mental state." "Drugs?" Freya looked up at Charlotte.
Charlotte's expression turned even more serious. "Yes, drugs. He was abused by an illegal organization. conducted hypnosis on him, and the result were troubling. He will need continued intervention when you return home."
Freya's hands balled into fists. She had seen many dark things over the years and learned a lot.
She had heard of underground organizations in some countries that committed heinous crimes against children, catering to the depraved desires of wealthy individuals.
She understood now that her
brother had escaped from one of those organizations and later wandered the streets of Pontenero. It was a small mercy that he was still alive and hadn't been tortured to death.
Freya decided to discuss with Sawyer the possibility of dismantling the organization to seek justice for her brother and other children like him.
Mason, being a particularly attractive and delicate boy, was likely targeted during the chaos of the car accident and abducted by criminals.
Taking a deep breath, Freya stood and bowed deeply to Charlotte before leaving the room.
Sawyer and Mason were waiting in the car. Mason, looking like a puppet, sat in the back seat, staring blankly out the window.
With brain damage and memory loss, this situation would be difficult even for an adult, let alone a child.
Freya didn't sit in the front passenger seat but chose to sit in the back next to Mason.
The boy had a contradictory personality, both fearing loneliness and having mild social anxiety. However, he felt at ease in Freya's presence.
Mason, having learned to read people's expressions from his time struggling on the streets, smiled at Freya. It was a polite smile that seemed almost a bit too eager to please.
Seeing this broke Freya's heart even more. She gently pulled him into a hug and whispered, "It's okay now. Whatever you want to do, eat, or play, your sister will take care of you."
Mason responded with a polite "thank you," which made Freya pause, unsure of what to say.
She held him tightly and softly rubbed his head, smiling as she said, "You don't have to thank me, not with your sister."
Freya brought Mason back to the hotel she had been staying in. After settling her brother in, she went to the outer room.
Since Nathaniel had blocked her on social media, she decided to call him directly. He picked up almost immediately.
"Nathaniel, let's talk."
"I'm not in Pontenero. Another day," Nathaniel snapped before hanging up. He knew she wanted to discuss the divorce papers and wasn't willing to give her any chance to bring it up.noveldrama
Freya felt an urge to hit something out of frustration.
Coupled with the stress from her brother's situation, she realized there was no point in trying to
communicate with Nathaniel any further. Heading back to Saeville seemed like the best option.
