Chapter 817 Don't Touch My Daughter

Cindy looked at her, "Why are you crying? Who wronged you, or is Phoebe treating you badly?"

"No, no." Ruby shook her head and waved her hands in a panic, afraid that Cindy might misunderstand. "Phoebe treats me very well."

"Then are you homesick?" Cindy knew that Ruby had been kicked out by the Adams family because she got pregnant before marriage. It was normal for her to miss home after being away for so long.

Unexpectedly, Ruby said expressionlessly, "I don't miss home, not at all."

Cindy stared at her in a daze. She had heard from Phoebe about how the Adams family had completely cut Ruby off. She sighed, "I won't guess anymore, but Phoebe treats you like family. If you have any problems, you must tell her. Don't keep it to yourself."

"I know." Ruby sniffled and looked at her nervously, "I thought you hated me."

"I do hate you," Cindy said frankly. "You used to bully Phoebe with Vanessa, and I was really angry. But what can I do? Phoebe doesn't hold grudges, so I have to follow her lead."

Ruby thought she would say something insincere for the sake of dignity, but she was so straightforward. She said, "I really envy the friendship between you and Phoebe." Looking back at the friendships she valued back then, they were nothing compared to theirs.

"No need to envy, friendships like ours are indeed rare," Cindy said. "Let's go, I want to check on Hubert, Boris, and Noomi."

The two of them walked towards the Ziegler Villa.

At the door, Cindy saw Harper standing outside. She had heard from Phoebe that he had come back specifically for this matter today.

"Uncle Harper, I'm Phoebe's friend, my name is Cindy." Cindy greeted him confidently, seeing him only as Phoebe's biological father, not the big shot in the finance industry from Caneda.

Harper nodded at her, the mosquito bites on his face looking somewhat comical. "Did Phoebe mention me?"

"Yes. I'm here to see Phoebe Is she home?" Cindy pretended not to notice Harper's awkwardness.

"She took the kids out to play, they should be back soon. You can go inside and wait for her," Harper said.

Ruby opened the door and said, "Sir, come in and have a seat. The mosquitoes are relentless this time of year. If you keep getting bitten, you'll be covered in welts by tomorrow."

"It's okay, you all go inside. I'll wait here for a bit," Harper waved his hand gently, without any airs of a financial tycoon.

The two exchanged a glance. Seeing Harper like this, they didn't know the situation and didn't dare to force him inside, so they stayed at the door with him.

Fortunately, Phoebe and others soon returned, laughing and chatting as they pushed the tired children. Seeing three people standing at the door, Phoebe asked Cindy, "What's going on? Did my mom kick you out too?"

"No, I'm just keeping Uncle Harper company. Hubert, Boris, Noomi, Ethan, did you have fun today?" Cindy bent down to ask the kids.

Noomi reached out, "Godmother, you haven't visited us in a long time. I missed you."

"Godmother missed Noomi too. Come, let me give you a kiss." Cindy kissed her on the cheek, and then Hubert, Boris, and Ethan followed suit, wanting kisses too.

Cindy kissed each of their cheeks and laughed, "Godmother's back is tired. Let's go inside."

Saying this, she carried Noomi inside.

Everyone followed her in, leaving Phoebe and Harper outside. Phoebe said, "You should go back first. It's getting cold in the evening, and my mom is still very angry. She won't feel sorry for you standing outside."

Harper looked at Phoebe's face, which resembled his own, and suddenly asked, "Phoebe, have you ever hated me?"

Phoebe was stunned. She had thought about this question. Did she hate him? When she first found out Harper was her father, she did hate him.noveldrama

But then, the joy of father being alive overwhelmed her. As Ruby said, instead of dwelling on why he hadn't come back all these years, it was better to happily accept God's gift.

"I did hate you," Phoebe said. Seeing Harper's momentary look of desolation, she added, "But now I'm very grateful to God. Thank you for surviving and giving me a chance to see my father."

Harper was overwhelmed with joy. He stepped forward excitedly, just about to hug Phoebe, when Evelyn's angry voice came from inside.

"Take your dirty hands off my daughter!" Evelyn came out with a broom, glaring at Harper fiercely. "Go, get out of here, don't stay at my door."

"Mom," Phoebe called helplessly.

Evelyn glared at her, "Get inside!"

Phoebe looked at Evelyn, then at Harper. Helpless, she went inside first, hearing Evelyn's scolding of Harper behind her.

Harper listened quietly. Not long after, Evelyn came back, and when Phoebe looked outside again, Harper was gone.

A few seconds later, Phoebe's phone vibrated. She glanced at it and saw several messages on WhatsApp. She opened them.

They were from Harper, asking her to persuade Evelyn to calm down and avoid getting sick from anger.

Phoebe looked up from her phone and saw Evelyn coming in, looking triumphant like she had just won a battle. She thought, 'Evelyn looks like she just won a battle, not like she's angry at all.'

Evelyn still had white bandages on her head. She put the broom by the wall and said, "Phoebe, I warn you, don't meet him behind my back."

"Mom, of course, I'm on your side," Phoebe quickly went over to coax her, making Evelyn laugh, and only then did she feel relieved.

It seemed it would take a long time for Harper to earn Evelyn's forgiveness.

They chatted downstairs for a while. It was getting late, and the kids were tired from playing. Phoebe and Cindy took them to the bedroom to bathe.

After all the fuss, it was already eleven o'clock by the time they got the kids to bed with their bottles. Phoebe was so tired her back was sore.

"I used to think having Hubert, Boris, and Noomi was easy, just make money and raise them. Now I realize how exhausting it is to raise them all at once," Phoebe sighed.

Cindy sat by the bed and motioned for her to lie down and stretch her back muscles. "You've had it tough. Just as Theodore found out you had triplets with someone else, your biological father showed up. Talk about bad timing!"
